About Dr. Cynthia

Dr. Cynthia J. Hickman, is Your Proactive Caregiver Advocate. I am an Author, Educator, Speaker, Consultant. As a registered nurse by profession, one would think caring for a loved one in the home would be simple. One would think my expertise as a nurse well-equipped me. Yes, my nursing career provided guidance, but 24/7 care in the home uncovered more than staying on top of activities of daily living(ADL). I was unprepared for the business side of the caregiving space, but it became a significant action item. The business side of caregiving is often left out. Caregiving requires a holistic mindset. I have written two books sharing my journey and the business side of caregiving. I understood that planning matters in the caregiving space. My books, From the Lens of Daughter, Nurse, and Caregiver: A Journey of Duty and Honor and The Black Book of Important Information for Caregivers has valuable insights.
Motto: Avoiding reactive actions using proactive approaches will abort spontaneous behaviors.

Retirement occurred due to need to care for her aging mother (thinking; I can get another job. I cannot get another mother). After retirement, while the caregiver for her mother, she completed two degrees, a Master of Nursing with a specialization in education (2009) and her Ph.D. in Health Services with a specialization in leadership (2016) from Walden University.

Dr. Hickman has her speaker shoes on, and microphone in hand, waiting to share her expertise on topics aligned with her lived experiences. She has spoken in intimate settings and at national conferences sharing proactive strategies that will support others in navigating caregiving challenges while celebrating the role's successes.

Let us go forward in this battle fortified by conviction that those who labour in the service of a great and good cause will never fail.
