Society is getting older, which means that priceless caregivers will need to be in our future. They come in the form of family, friends, and neighbors, displaying their labor of love. When caring for an aging population due to a sudden health care event, memory loss, or physical disability, providing care is essential. As with most older adults, asking for help when they have been independent for so many years is sometimes challenging. So an extra hug will go a long way as older adults have to give up their ability to care for themselves.
Caregivers are Heavy Hitters!
The art of caregiving requires a team of heavy hitters! What is a heavy hitter, you may ask? In the caregiving space, a heavy hitter is someone who can multitask! Think on their feet: daily plan events, all done with love and compassion. Caregiving responsibilities are essential and vital to the care recipient, and although we multitask, we have a tangible reality of safety while caring. There should be a primary caregiver, just to keep perspective, but sharing with others is certainly important. This is significant if a crisis occurs. As a team, we bring many talents to the caregiving space. Your skills and gifts matter. Bring them to the teamwork table, so we can complement one another as we care for our loved-ones.
Did you know that teamwork is proactive? Coming together to devise a plan to give our all to the caregiving space is amazing! Remember to acknowledge your strengths and your weaknesses. You are on a team. It is always safer to pass the baton than to hold on to it and error.
